Reconstructive Techniques - Sinus Lift

Reconstructive Techniques

The use of implants has now become a scientifically accepted method for replacing missing teeth in both fully and partially edentulous patients. As we know, for an implant to be successful, sufficient bone volume is required both in height and width. But what happens when the dimensions of the bone do not allow for the placement of implants?

In such cases, special reconstructive techniques are applied with the goal of creating bone in areas where it is lacking. Bone regeneration is done using bone grafts and absorbable membranes. The bone grafts can come from the patient (autogenous) or from an external source (animal, human origin, or synthetic).

At our clinic, we typically use human-origin grafts stored in special bone banks, thus avoiding the need for a second surgery to harvest bone from the patient's jaw. These grafts are fully biocompatible, as they maintain the structure of human bone and are also safe due to the specialized processing they undergo from the donor.

Sinus Lift

Specifically, in the posterior area of the upper jaw, when there is a height deficiency in the bone and implants need to be placed, we use the sinus lift method. This method is divided into closed and open types and aims to create bone inside the sinus cavity so that the required bone height is achieved for the safe placement of implants. Bone creation is again performed using special grafts. All these procedures are done under local anesthesia, and their postoperative course is excellent.
